ESG

Our ESG Strategy

The Directors and shareholders recognise that good corporate governance is a key foundation for the long-term success of the Group. The Board have adopted the principles set out in the Corporate Governance Code for small and mid-sized companies published by the Quoted Companies Alliance (“QCA Code”).

Sesona is cognisant of its requirement to operate within the legal boundaries of technical consents, but also the wider obligation to have a social licence to operate within the local community. As part of our consulting strategy, Sesona will engage with the local community as part of our pre-application consultation to discuss and listen to the views and opinions of neighbours, local businesses and elected members regarding how our development is designed, shaped and delivered.

Operating Responsibly

Sesona operates to the principles of ISO management standards which provide a systematic structure of planning, executing, learning, and improving our operations. As the business grows so too will our framework to assure ourselves that the business is growing in the right way aligned with the wider ESG expectations.

Environment

Landfill waste decomposes releasing methane, a greenhouse gas that’s 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide. When modelled using assumptions based on the most efficient plants running in the UK, incineration (without pre-treatment) produces less GHG per tonne of waste treated today than landfill (without pre-treatment and bio-stabilisation). For every tonne of waste diverted from landfill it eliminates approx. 0.54t of CO2 equivalent from being emitted in landfill gases. By using this resource locally, it reduces the distance that waste must travel reducing the carbon and a reduction of up to 1.6kt per mile CO2 per tonne of waste per annum.

Regulatory

The regulated lifecycle requires operators to provide technical modelling that demonstrates emissions to air, land and water along with traditional planning requirements of traffic, noise and lighting. The robust legal limits and operating techniques are world class in the UK meaning the local and wider community and natural environment remains protected. Energy from Waste facilities is not a novel technique and has a strong history of operating in the UK. Our technical consenting will be managed by an experienced and competent management team supported by third party technical consultants who have successful consented similar EfW projects.

Stakeholders

Sesona is committed to the social and economic development of our people and recognises that sustained socio-economic progress is achieved through investment in programmes that address education, employment and improved access to basic services. As such Sesona will ensure its staff receives adequate training to safely carry out its work whilst learning new skills. Sesona will also work with its host communities to provide further education with a focus on recycling and the need for a circular economy.
